Staff pick: Menacing noise-rock trio Wolf Eyes provides a soundtrack for End Times

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

Just a glance at Wolf Eyes' most popular Spotify tracks hints at the sonic menace contained within: "Choking Flies," "Stabbed in the Face," "Born Liar." Unlike its Detroit home, however, little about the trio's destructive sound suggests rebirth. Still, the band is experiencing a bit of a reemergence, anchored by an extensive digital archival release of collected demos and experimentations dating back to the late '90s. Tracks like "Live Scum," nearly 32 minutes of grinding, metallic noise and industrial feedback that surfaced as part of this initial release wave, are far from easy listening. Instead, they set listeners inside a dark, desperate world where it's not a matter of if the end is coming, but rather when. Not to be missed are fellow performers REV//REV, Muscle Puzzle and Melted Man.
