Singer Naoko Yamano has been writing playful pop-punk in Japanese rock trio Shonen Knife since 1981, along the way releasing music on labels like K Records and Sub Pop, and playing alongside bands like Nirvana and the Breeders. The band is currently on the “Alive in the USA” tour in support of Shonen Knife's recent release, a CD/DVD set called Alive! in Osaka, featuring 20 tracks recorded live in Japan last year, plus a cover of Nick Lowe's “Cruel to Be Kind” as a CD bonus track.
