After performing in her previous band, Mount Moriah, H.C. McEntire took a gig touring with Angel Olsen, then came back home to North Carolina, writing and recording her 2018 solo debut, Lionheart (Merge Records).

While Mount Moriah flirted with McEntire's Southern roots, Lionheart was a full-on country record — and an absolutely gorgeous one, at that. “It was a slow walk back to country. With Mount Moriah, I was getting my feet wet again,” she told Alive in 2018. “I think I tempered that Southern-ness because I hadn’t found a way to reconnect with it or make it mine. I was having this internal conflict with how to exist and how to create this music, but also wanting to challenge it.”

Now McEntire is back with a beautiful new song, "Time, on Fire," the first single from her forthcoming sophomore solo record, Eno Axis, releasing on Aug. 21 via Merge. She describes the new tune as “the catalyst to reopen my heart and mind. Its spirit also symbolizes the true foundation of Eno Axis; writing this song gave me direction to document the climb forward into new love.”
