The Nelsonville Music Festival's 2022 lineup

One of my best-remembered moments at the Nelsonville Music Festival occurred in 2011 during a headlining performance by indie-rock vets Yo La Tengo. The band peppered its set with taut pop songs and blown-out, revelatory, feedback-laden jams. As Ira Kaplan's cathartic guitar squalls filled the open field in front of the main stage, I heard someone behind me yell, "This isn't even music!" I laughed. To each his own!

This year, you'll have the opportunity to again either bask in the feedback or plug your ears (I recommend basking) when Yo La Tengo takes the stage during the 2022 Nelsonville Music Festival, Sept. 2-4, in its new location: the Snow Fork Event Center, located at 5685 Happy Hollow Road in Nelsonville.

Joining Yo La Tengo are headliners Japanese Breakfast, Angel Olsen and Lucinda Williams, plus a solid undercard featuring Neko Case, Mdou Moctar, folk legend Michael Hurley, Adia Victoria, Columbus band DANA and others. Weekend passes are $129 (the price will increase as the date gets closer), and residents of Nelsonville and Buchtel attend free with proof of residency.
