New Salon: Jekyll & Hyde Salon

The classic story of the strange transformation of Dr. “Plays by the Rules” Jekyll to Mr. “Drunk Bro” Hyde and back again is one that has always appealed to Angie Hatzifotinos.

“Everyone has two sides, these dualities and idiosyncrasies,” Hatzifotinos said. “Everyone has moxie. You just gotta let the world know about it.”

Hatzifotinos has got her own dichotomous quirks — she is one part biker chick who rides a Harley (her bike’s license plate reads “Jekyll”) and one part yoga aficionado. She also pokes fun at her double-sided Gemini tendencies.

Thus, when she opened her new hair salon in the former Black Gypsy Circus art gallery and tattoo parlor in Clintonville, Hatzifotinos decided there was no better name for it than Jekyll & Hyde.

“I have a customer who works for the city of Columbus by day and is a punk-rock drummer by night,” she said. “I want you to come in here and get a transformation. I can help you find the color, cut and texture that fits your mile-by-the-minute lifestyle.”

The cozy, three-seat space is a study in opposites. One side of the room is decked out in all black and white. There’s a Rorschach-inspired painting, zebra-print pillows, and black and white photos of England, where the original Jekyll & Hyde transpired. Hatzifotinos painted an “organized chaos” mural on the other side of the room, beaming with bright purples, reds and teals.

Jekyll & Hyde haircuts start at $20. A long-hair wash and cut is $35. The salon also offers color ($35 to $90), keratin treatments, extensions and full-service and maintenance waxing ($12 on up). Earth-friendly Joico brand products are favorites of Hatzifotinos and Jekyll & Hyde stylist Darren Hardesty.

Despite the name, Jekyll & Hyde promises one part of their salon will never change — customer service.

“Our passion is to help people find their look without being cookie cutter,” Hardesty said. “We make getting your hair cut a very personal experience.”
