Objects of Desire: Fall boots

Needless to say, picking a pair you’re passionate about is important.

So what’s trending this year? Brown, baby. While black boots are the ever-reliable standby, colors like brown, pomegranate red and deep purple lend fall looks some depth and personality. Details reign supreme this fall. Women’s boots with color blocked heels and toes, fur cuffs, studs and spikes are everywhere.

As for styles, all heights will work. The high riding boot is nice for extra warmth in the winter; its versatility means it looks great with a skirt and leggings and tights or over some jeans (as a short gal whose jeans always get coated in water or snow-busting salt, this is my favorite look). Try an ankle or mid-calf high boot to stand out a little or to give your outfit a totally different feel.

Locally, Repertoire (shoerepertoire.com) carries high-quality brands like Frye, Wolverine, Bass & Co. and Ted Baker. If shopping online is your thing, check out Zappos.com. Its best roundup of styles is in the boots department, and the site offers free shipping.

If you’re still rocking that pair you love from last year, invest in some sticky grips to keep your feet firmly on the ground and some knee high socks or leg warmers (I like American Apparel’s) to slouch out the top of the boot to give them a fresh feel.
