Summer fun guide: Patios for margaritas

Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive

Mad Mex

1542 N. High St., Campus

There is much appeal to spending an afternoon or an evening under the awning at Mad Mex. For one thing, they serve half-price food between 10 p.m. and midnight - a classier alternative to your average "fourth meal." Perhaps just as impressive is the margarita menu, headlined by 22-ounce "Big Azz" margaritas in a range of fruit flavors for $7. They'll also serve you one of many marg offshoot cocktails or will "pimp your margarita" to build the beverage of your choice.

During 4-7 p.m. happy hour, 12- and 16-ounce margs are discounted; the aforementioned "Late Mex" period affords the "Big Booty" version for $6. Consider it the margarita lover's South Campus Gateway to paradise.

Cazuela's Grill Mexican

2247 N. High St., Campus

During winter, Cazuela's is a somewhat claustrophobic but tasty Mexican outpost near the core of Ohio State's campus. When the weather warms up, the patio springs to life, instantly transforming Cazuela's into an essential destination for sipping margaritas in the open air.

La Fogata Grill

790 N. High St., Short North

If sipping south-of-the-border cocktails in the heart of the Short North sounds like your kind of fiesta, it's hard to imagine a better locale than La Fogata. Take note: Monday is margarita night.
